All about Golf Clubs

A good set of golf clubs is the weapon of choice for the advanced golfer.  A complete set of clubs consists of woods, irons and a putter.  According to the rules of golf, as set forth by the United States Golf Association (USGA), a golfer’s bag may hold 14 clubs.  Most golfers will carry a driver, two fairway woods, 7 irons, 3 wedges and the putter.  A driver is a long-shafted club with a full head used to strike the ball that is set upon a tee.  The club head does not have much lift to it, to achieve maximum distance off the tee.  The fairway woods have club heads that are slightly more lofted than the driver, and are used for long shots when the ball is lying on the ground.  Most brand name drivers cost between $200 and $400.  Fairway woods normally retail from $150 to $300.  Golf irons are the essence of a set of golf clubs.  Two thirds of the shots in a normal round of golf will utilize an iron.  Irons are used to hit the golf ball off the ground from distances of 125 yards to 225 yards.  Each iron is assigned a number based upon the loft angle of the club head.  The 9-iron has the most loft, and is used to hit short, high shots.  A 2-iron has very little loft, and is used to hit low, long shorts.   Wedges are normally included in the purchase of a set of irons.  The most common wedges are the pitching wedge, the sand wedge and the lob wedge.  These golf clubs are used for short, controlled shots, normally very close to the putting green.  Some golfers may choose to remove one of the wedges in lieu of a 2-iron.  Also worth noting, there are two primary types of irons available.  Forged irons are precision clubs that can give experienced golfers a greater ability to shape their shots.  Cavity-back irons are considered to be more forgiving, with a larger sweet spot and primarily for golfers who want to focus on hitting straight shots.  A set of 10 irons can range in price from as little as $250, to as much as $1,500.

The final and perhaps most important golf club, is the putter.  The putter is also known as the “money club” because it is the club used to tap the ball into the hole.  The purpose of the putter is to roll the ball, so there is no loft on the club head.  There are many varieties of putters in all shapes and sizes.  Some of the putter shafts are so short that the golfer grips it near his knees, and some are so long that they are gripped at the golfer’s chest.  Many golfers spend their entire lives changing putters to find the one that feels right for them.  Simple putters can cost as little as $20 but some of the more exotic putters can cost as much as $300.

With golf greetings…….

Golf is more than about your club

Ok, you are right. My first logs of the days before are very short. Well, I knew it. These are notes to let you think. Let’s start with the first one “for a lower golf handicap: 5 areas of concern”

Any golfer, pro as well as amateur, young and old, is focussed on the magic swing. It is obvious your golf swing has been influenced by the type of your irons and drivers. However, I get the impression if I surf on the web people think a great iron will improve immediately their swing. For example, a man had asked on a forum:  Do you think I need a new shaft??” He wants to improve his drive distance. He had mentioned a great iron which cost him ~$200. However, he did not fully analyse his performance at first. He forgot there are more influences than good equipment, eg.:

·        His athletics ! How is he making his natural swing on a higher speed? Did he test it? No

·        His Mental health ! He really will improve his drive distance;  Does it helps him to think “I have to put some more muscle into my golf swing”? No, it is about a faster upper body rotation. He becomes a better golfer if he visualizes this peak performance instead of block his vessels by power swinging.

·        His fitness ! Does he need a stiffer shaft ? Maybe the golfer himself is a little bit stiff J for a proper speedy swing. He should check out his ‘mechanics’ with a PGA professional. And he could go to a sport centre for special golf fitness program. Pro’s like Ernie Els, Tiger Woods, Annika Sörenstam en Se Ri Pak are regularly in the fitness school to improve their body condition and strength.

Golf also is about this. Take care for it before you order a new expensive driver or iron.

Next days I will give you more great insights. By

I love the Callaway brand, however, the question is: “what is the best for you?”

Find out by:

1)  analyse your performance, so you know where to improve

2)  figure out by online comparison what could be a right iron, driver or putter; make your own golf club review :-)

3)  go to the pro golf shop to test them

4)  choose, buy it (online) and have fun

They review it from a technical point of view. One club by the other one. No comparison

This is not a review, this is a product specification.

And … where are you, as a consumer, during the process of reviewing? No consumer oriented approach.

That means: “they” try to convince you will become a better player with quality brand golf clubs. The truth is : you become a better golfer if you golf clubs fits your natural golf swing.

My first golf equipment was chosen by intuition and the good feeling. During testing my golf swing was the most smoothly one with the clone golf clubs.

For a Low golf handicap: 5 areas of concern !

Have you any idea?

I keep it simple today:

  1. GOLF SWING – of ourse you know this
  2. GOLF PUTTING – most people focus on their swing; they gets the points by poor putting
  3. GOLF EQUIPMENT – it has influence on your swing
  4. GOLF MENTAL HEALTH – keep it cool in your head
  5. GOLF FITNESS – do some exercises and you impress yourself
